About 850 artists will be participating in this year’s reenactment of the impressive Inti Raymi Inca cultural festival in Cusco, southeastern Peru.

This ‘Festival of the Sun’, one of the largest and most colorful festivals in Latin America, takes place every 24th of June at the Sacsayhuaman fortress, overlooking the Andean city of Cusco.

Emufec, the municipality company responsible for the traditional Cusco festivities, will celebrate its 25th anniversary by taking care of all the details of this event, which takes place at the winter solstice, when the sun is farthest from the earth.

Oscar Alzamora, head of Emufec, recalled that the festival featured about 500 actors over the past years “but now there are more than 800, and if we add those in charge of direction and music, they total about 1000 people.”

More than 120,000 people are expected to visit Cusco for the Inti Raymi festival this month.
